Day 1: Kigali, Rwanda
Arrive in Kigali.
Day 2: Kigali / Nyungwe Forest National Park
Visit the King’s Palace in Nyanza and tour the National Museum in Butare, which delves into the cultural history of the country and the region. Continue to Nyungwe Forest National Park.
Day 3: Nyungwe Forest National Park
Set out on a guided canopy walk and nature walk in search of the region’s spectacular bird species.
Day 4: Nyungwe Forest National Park
Embark on an excursion to track chimpanzees in Nyungwe Forest National Park.
Day 5: Nyungwe Forest National Park / Kigali
Fly to Kigali, one of the most thriving and progressive capital cities in Africa. Enjoy lunch at the legendary Hotel des Mille Collines—featured in the movie Hotel Rwanda—where more than a thousand Rwandans found safe haven during the genocide. Visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre, where a poignant exhibition recalls Rwanda's mid-1990s genocide and testifies to the country’s remarkable resilience.
Day 6: Kigali / Parc National des Volcans
Take an excursion that traces Rwanda’s path from despair to hope. Visit the Nyamata Church Memorial, a tribute to the thousands who lost their lives while seeking refuge during the 1994 Rwandan genocide. Spend the remainder of the day visiting the Rwandan operation of the UN Millennium Villages Project, a unique development approach that touches on topics such as sustainable agriculture, education, health care, infrastructure, micro-enterprise development, as well as peace building and reconciliation. Drive to Parc National des Volcans.
Day 7: Parc National des Volcans
Spend the day tracking mountain gorillas in the forested hills of Parc National des Volcans. Sit among these gentle giants viewing one of the planet’s most endangered creatures from an awe-inspiring, up close perspective. This evening, watch a performance of traditional Rwandan dances by a local dance troupe.
Day 8: Parc National des Volcans
Spend the morning tracking endangered golden monkeys through bamboo forests. Visit the Mountain Gorilla Veterinary Project (MGVP), which provides lifesaving veterinary care to gorillas in their natural habitat.
Day 9: Parc National des Volcans / Kigali / Depart for Home
Visit a local school and meet school children in their classrooms. Return to Kigali and depart for home.
