Day 1: Kampala, Uganda
Arrive in Kampala.
Day 2: Kampala
Take a short boat ride to Ngamba Island to visit the Chimp Sanctuary, established in association with the Jane Goodall Institute. Watch as the chimps are fed and play in their natural environment. Visit the Uganda Wildlife Education Center to see the many animal, plant, and bird species that call this country home.
Day 3: Queen Elizabeth National Park
Enjoy a scenic drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park in the Great Rift Valley, stopping at the equator en route. Relax on an afternoon boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel and look for hippo and crocodile from the water.
Day 4: Queen Elizabeth National Park
Track chimpanzees in the beautiful Kyambura Gorge, which is also home to red-tailed monkey and black-and-white colobus monkey. Embark on an afternoon game drive to see lion, elephant, warthog, and a vast array of birds.
Day 5: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Set out on a game drive en route to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, keeping an eye out for tree-climbing lions along the way.
Day 6: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Track endangered mountain gorillas and sit among these gentle giants. Explore the cultural highlights of this area during a guided village walk or hike along the Munyaga River Trail.
Day 7: Parc National des Volcans, Rwanda
Drive to Rwanda, “the land of 1,000 hills.” Embrace the stunning volcanic landscape en route to Parc National des Volcans. This evening, watch a performance of traditional Rwandan dances by a local dance troupe.
Day 8: Parc National des Volcans
Spend the day tracking mountain gorillas, this time through the forested hills of Parc National des Volcans. Meet local children during a school visit this afternoon.
Day 9: Parc National des Volcans
Spend the morning tracking endangered golden monkeys through bamboo forests. Visit the Mountain Gorilla Veterinary Project (MGVP), which provides lifesaving veterinary care to gorillas in their natural habitat.
Day 10: Parc National des Volcans / Kigali / Depart for Home
Drive to Kigali and visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre, where a poignant exhibition recalls Rwanda's mid-1990s genocide and testifies to the country’s remarkable resilience. Depart for home this evening.
