Day 1: Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Arrive in Ho Chi Minh City, formerly Saigon, and experience the cacophony of motorcycles, cars, and bikes crowding the streets. Take a walking tour of the graceful former French colonial city of Saigon admiring historical landmarks such as the Opera House and the Notre Dame Cathedral.
Day 2: Ho Chi Minh City / Mekong Delta
Enjoy the verdant beauty and patchwork of emerald green rice paddies of the Mekong Delta during a bike ride through small villages. Enjoy a scenic boat cruise and visit the floating market.
Day 3: Ho Chi Minh City / Hanoi
Visit the Cu Chi Tunnels, which served as an underground military network during the Vietnam War. Fly to Hanoi.
Day 4: Hanoi
Enjoy a Hanoi city tour, including the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, the lotus-shaped One Pillar Pagoda, the Temple of Literature, and the Museum of Ethnology. Take a cyclo (bicycle rickshaw) ride through the vibrant street life of Hanoi’s Old Quarter. Enjoy a traditional water puppet show this evening.
Day 5: Hanoi / Halong Bay
Discover the surreal natural beauty of the emerald waters of UNESCO World Heritage site Halong Bay by junk ship, rowboat, and kayak. Explore magical limestone islands, hidden grottoes and fisherman’s villages, and then dine and sleep on a traditional sailing junk.
Day 6: Halong Bay
Learn about the ancient art of tai chi this morning before embarking on a second day of Halong Bay exploration.
Day 7: Halong Bay / Hanoi / Luang Prabang, Laos
Disembark and visit the Institute of Archeology with a local archeologist to learn about the Battle of Bach Dang. Fly to Luang Prabang, Laos.
Day 8: Luang Prabang
Participate in alms giving to saffron-robed monks, an awe-inspiring sight. Visit the National Museum, Wat Visoun, Wat Xiengthong, and the Traditional Arts & Ethnology Center. Meet with monks at Wat Mai, and enjoy an easy sunset hike at Mount Phousi.
Day 9: Luang Prabang
Explore Kuang Si Falls, enjoying time to relax and swim. Embark on a motor boat ride on the Mekong River to visit the famous Pak Ou Caves, where hundreds of gilded and wooden Buddha statues are housed. Watch a Baci Ceremony, traditionally held to commemorate a special event.
Day 10: Luang Prabang / Depart for Home
Depart for home.
